© 2016 International Formulae Group. All rights reserved.Exemplaires

© 2015 International Formulae Group. The ribbon width (RW) of 600 swelled fibers produced by the hybrids, their parents, and their backcross progeny were analyzed for each compared genotype using an optical microscope. The RWs varied between 6.41±2.15 μm for G. longicalyx to 17.45±2.98 μm for the G. hirsutum parent cultivar C2. Fibers produced by the trispecific hybrids and their progeny were finer than the
bispecific hybrid material. For the introgressed stocks, the lowest RWs were observed for the trispecific hybrid (10.79±2.14 μm) and certain backcross progenies (between 11.98±1.27 μm to 12.71±1.61 μm). The allohexaploid RW was 13.58±1.41 μm. One of its tetraploid progeny produced approximately the same value (13.94±2.48 μm). These results show that G. longicalyx is a potential genetic stock for cotton fiber fineness improvement. The genetic stocks produced are valuable materials for improve the fineness of cotton fiber.Exemplaires

Catégories : RESSOURCES NATURELLES ET ENVIRONNEMENT Mots-clés : Activités enzymatiques du sol, fertilité du sol Index. décimale : P345-Biochimie du sol: litière du sol, décomposition ; humus Résumé : A few species of shrubs grow with dryland row crops in farmers’ fields throughout the Sahel and can significantly increase crop yield. The presence of shrub roots and litter inputs should have implications for soil nutrient pool sizes but there is limited information on the interactions of these shrubs with microbial communities involved in biogeochemical processes. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the microbial composition and functional capacity of soil from the rooting zone of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum) grown in the presence or absence of the shrub Piliostigma reticulatum in Senegal. Soil samples were collected from a long-term field study where millet was cultivated alone or intercropped with P. reticulatum with annual incorporation of coppiced shrub residues. Higher nutrient contents and distinct differences in microbial communities (DGGE profiles) were found between soils from beneath the canopy compared to soil outside the influence of shrubs. The catabolic response profile (MicroResp™) showed that the soil microbial community at both shrub and non-shrub sampling locations, metabolized a wide range of substrates. Trehalose that can work as a signaling molecule was more rapidly degraded in the rooting zone of millet growing in the presence of P. reticulatum over millet alone. Urease, arylsulfatase and dehydrogenase activities in the millet root zone soil were higher when intercropped with P. reticulatum which indicates enhanced potential of biogeochemical processes to proceed in the presence of this shrub. It is concluded that the native shrub P. reticulatum promotes a more diverse and active microbial community in the rooting zone of millet and further indicates greater potential to
perform decomposition and mineralize nutrients.Exemplaires

Two hundred and six mapped SSR markers of G. hirsutum were used to monitor the introgression of SSR alleles specific to G.sturtianum and G. raimondii in the selected progenies. A high level of heterozygosity, varying from 25 to 100%, was observed for all G. sturtianum-specific SSR markers conserved in the most advanced progenies. These results indicate the existence of segregation distortion factors that are associated with the genes controlling the researched trait. This study represents a starting point to map the genes involved in the expression of the trait and better understand its genetic determinism. Exemplaires

The expression of the character was analysed in progenies obtained by selfing the HRS BC2S5/9/6/1/51/15 genetic stock. This character is controlled by one or more genes located on introgressed chromosome fragments of G. sturtianum. These foreign DNA fragments seem also carriers of gametes terminators genes on the same chromosome fragments and there would be a possible existence of negative interactions between some of the introgressed G. sturtianum alleles and the G. hirsutum genetic background inducing post-zygotic mortality. In order to break existing lethal links, some of the studied seeds were treated with 15 krad of gamma radiation. The transfer of G. sturtianum chromosome fragments introgressed stocks was assessed using ten mapped SSR markers, carried out on 78 plants HRS ‘BC2S6’. Gamma irradiation used to overcome lethality in HRS hybrid did not give expected results in M2 because of high rate of abortion observed in HRS ‘BC2S6’ seeds. However, gamma ray did not induce the appearance of chimeric tissues in the HRS ‘BC2S5/9/6/1/51/15’ in M1 plants. Moreover, the notable fertility improvement observed for some plants issued from irradiated seeds constitutes a clue of the achievement of favourables recombinations due to the gamma ray treatment. The perspectives opened by the results obtained for the stabilization of the glandless-seed and glanded-plant trait in a G. hirsutum commercial variety are discussed. Exemplaires

Annual application of manure led to the highest soil microbial biomass and enzyme activities. Investigations indicated that only microbial biomass and β-glucosidase activities were affected during the cropping season. Phosphatase and FDA enzyme activities did not depend on the crop development stages. The application of N fertilizer modified phosphatase and FDA enzyme activities, the activities being higher in soils amended with N fertilizer. The bacterial community structure was analyzed by PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) targeting the eubacterial 16S rRNA gene. Cluster analysis of PCR-DGGE patterns showed two major clusters, the first containing the mineral fertilization and straw treatments and the second, the straw + urea, manure and manure + urea treatments. Sorghum grain yields were the highest for
manure treatments. In this long-term experiment, applying straw did not produce a better grain yield than that obtained in the un-amended plot.Exemplaires
