Methods We examined and sampled 120 febrile sheep in two regions of Senegal for this study. The DNA extracted from these blood samples was tested by PCR using two pairs of primers (groEL-based and 16S rRNA gene-based). Results In 52/120 samples, the microscopic examination revealed intraerythrocytic and/or intraphagocytic spherical inclusions. In 48/52 cases, we succeeded in identifying the bacterial agent: in 38 cases, it was Anaplasma ovis; in six cases, it was Ehrlichia ruminantium; in two cases, Anaplasma phagocytophilum; in one case, Anaplasma platys; and in one
case, a yet uncultured Anaplasma sp. closely related to A. phagocytophilum. Conclusions Our studies demonstrated the great variety of pathogenic bacteria from the Anaplasmataceae family in the blood of clinically ill sheep. A. ovis was identified unexpectedly often. For the first time, A. phagocytophilum was found in sub-Saharan Africa, and its further epidemiology may be now reconsidered. The roles of canine pathogen, A. platys, and yet undescribed Anaplasma sp. “Badiouré” in ovine pathology should be more closely studied.Exemplaires

fermented. There is little information about the quality either at farm level (milk
already infected with pathogenic agents or contaminated because of unhygienic
handling) or at market level. As milk can, under certain conditions, pose a potential
health hazard, particularly when consumed raw, it is not only the quantity of milk but
also its quality and safety that needs to be investigated in order to both improve the
nutritional base of an increasing population in urban and peri-urban areas and the
marketing of milk and derived products.
The objectives of this study are the identification and quantification of bacterial
contaminants and zoonotic agents at levels of producers, traders and vendors and
associated risk for the consumer. Additionally, the study intended to assess the
improvement in milk quality and hygiene via pasteurisation in SenegalExemplaires

needed. Management strategies involving the mass-release of living control agents have been developed, including genetic
control with sterile insects and biological control with parasitoids, for which aerial release of insects is often required. Aerial
release in genetic control programmes often involves the use of chilled sterile insects, which can improve dispersal, survival
and competitiveness of sterile males. Currently available means of aerially releasing chilled fruit flies are however
insufficiently precise to ensure homogeneous distribution at low release rates and no device is available for tsetse.Exemplaires

development across 10 million km2 of Africa endemic to tsetse flies. Diagnosis at the point of treatment is currently
dependent on parasite detection which is unreliable, and on clinical signs, which are common to several other
prevalent bovine diseases.Exemplaires

Résumé : The ultrastructural study of spermiogenesis and
the spermatozoon of Paramphistomum microbothrium gave
evidence of some characteristics of this digenean. The
intercentriolar body located between two striated roots and
two centrioles exhibits a symmetric plane. The two external
bands of this intercentriolar body are made up of a line of
granules. The striated roots are about 3.7-μm long. During
spermiogenesis, a flagellar rotation of 90° is described. The
spermatozoon is characterized in its anterior part by the
existence of external ornamentations and a lateral expansion
exhibiting a “spine-like body.” Such a spine-like body
has never been described before in a digenean. The region II
of the spermatozoon is asymmetrical and also characterized
by the absence of mitochondrion. The posterior end of this
spermatozoon exhibits a nucleus and a few microtubulesExemplaires
